Maria Sanchez De Bautista and Yazmin Bautista Sanchez Killed in Highway 101 Crash
SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, CA (July 21, 2021) – A crash killed Maria De Bautista and Yazmin Sanchez on Highway 101 near El Capitan State Beach.
The Coroner’s Bureau identified the two Santa Maria women as the victims of the fatal wreck which occurred last week on Thursday.
The incident happened when Maria Sanchez De Bautista, 52; and Yazmin Bautista Sanchez, 20, were riding a Ford Expedition north on Highway 101.
Their car was traveling at about 70 mph when for an unknown reason it spun out of control. The SUV crossed several lanes and the unpaved median, and drove into the southbound lanes.
The Expedition drifted from the right-hand lane into the left-hand lane of northbound Highway 101 and hit a Ford F-450. The SUV ended up thrown into the air as it entered the southbound side of the road.
7 Injured in Crash Near El Capitan
In the process, the Expedition struck a Dodge Grand Caravan and a Honda Accord driving in the left-hand southbound lane. The SUV overturned onto its right side and went across the lanes.
The California Highway Patrol said a Chevy Bolt and a Toyota Tundra tried to avoid the collision. The Chevy crashed into the Expedition while debris hit the Toyota.
Maria De Bautista and Yazmin Sanchez died at the scene of the Highway 101 crash. The Santa Maria Times and Noozhawk wrote that the accident on July 15 at about 7:55 a.m.
The collision near the El Capitan State Beach left a total of seven people injured. Paramedics took four of them with moderate to major injuries.
The other two patients sustained minor wounds as a result of the wreck. The cause of the tragic collision is still under investigation.
