LAKESIDE, California (July 26, 2016) — Maria Elena Dowden, 83, of El Centro was killed Monday afternoon in a pedestrian accident on the Interstate 8 Freeway, just east of Lake Jennings Park Road, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner.
The fatal pedestrian accident took place about 3:48 p.m. Police say the El Centro woman was attempting to cross the westbound lanes of the 8 Freeway when she was hit by a box truck. Witnesses who saw the crash called 911 for police and paramedics, but the woman died of her injuries at the scene of the crash.
The pedestrian accident is under investigation by police to determine liability.
