3 Killed, 3 Injured in Modesto Head-on Crash on Hwy 132
MODESTO, Calif. (August 30, 2021) — Maria Magana, Mireya Reyes, 51 and Aurelia Amezcua were all injured Saturday night in a deadly, head-on crash on Highway 132 in Modesto.
All three were riding in a 2007 Chevrolet Suburban driven by Aurelia Amezcua, 49, of San Jose, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The SUV was traveling westbound on Highway 132 at about 65 mph and approaching the San Joaquin River bridge.
Aurelia Amezcua decided to pass a slower-moving semi-truck and crossed the double yellow lines into eastbound lanes about 9:10 p.m. The driver was just a half-mile from a passing lane in the roadway. She subsequently crashed head-on into an oncoming 2011 Nissan Versa occupied by three people.
Upon impact, all three people in the Nissan died at the scene. Maria Magana and Mireya Reyes suffered major injuries and their driver had minor injuries.
Fatal Crash Victims Identified
Lisa Trevino, her brother, Michael Maul and his wife, Heidi Maul all died in a head-on crash.
Trevino, 40, of Ceres, and her passengers, Michael Maul, 43, of Salinda, and his wife, Heidi Lalani Maul, who was identified in a friend’s Facebook post.
Both vehicles eventually came to a stop in the eastbound lanes and at the shoulder south of the roadway.
3 Injured in Deadly Modesto Head-on Crash
Additionally, Aurelia Amezcua suffered minor injuries in the collision. Paramedics transported her to Doctors Medical Center.
Maria Magana, 53, of Hayward, and Mireya Reyes, 51, were taken to Memorial Medical Center for major injuries.
Also, police closed down Highway 132 from River Road to Gates Road for a 3-hour investigation.
Meanwhile, investigators do not suspect drugs and or alcohol are factors in the collision.
Finally, witnesses may call the Modesto CHP at 209-545-7440.
