Maria Mata, 66, Killed in South Los Angeles Hit-and-Run at Main and 97th Streets
LOS ANGELES, CA (February 22, 2021) – A hit-and-run crash killed Maria Mata at Main and 97th streets in South Los Angeles.
Police identified the 66-year-old Los Angeles woman as the victim of the fatal accident which occurred earlier this month.
The incident happened on February 2 when Maria Mata was walking south of 97th Street. At the same time, a vehicle was going south on Main Street.
Los Angeles Police said the driver then struck the pedestrian for an unknown reason. She was hit at the intersection in the Broadway-Manchester neighborhood.

Firefighters along with the paramedics responded to the scene and found Maria Mata left lying on the ground. She suffered major injuries as a result of the collision.
Meanwhile, police affirmed that the motorist did not stop to render aid to Mata and soon fled the area. The suspect drove south on Main Street and ultimately made a left turn on 98th Street.
Officers described the car involved as a white pickup truck with white wooden side paneling. Authorities are still searching for the hit-and-run driver.
