Maria Prado, 19; and Saul Betancourt, 21, Victims in Newman Fatal Car Crash
NEWMAN, CA (January 10, 2022) – A car crash killed Saul Betancourt and seriously injured Maria Prado in Newman.
The Modesto Bee and KCRA News identified the 21-year-old man and the 19-year-old woman as victims of the collision which occurred on Sunday.
The incident began when Saul Betancourt was driving a Chevrolet coupe with Maria Prado as his passenger in Newman. They were traveling down Villa Manucha Road.
At the same, a police officer was in a fight with a suspect in the area of River and Villa Manucha roads. The officer then called for the Stanislaus County sheriff’s deputies help.
1 Killed, 2 Seriously Injured in Wreck
The deputy came in an unmarked Nissan going south on River with lights and sirens on. In the process, the detective T-boned the Chevrolet as it pulled into the intersection.
Saul Betancourt died while Maria Prado sustained serious injuries as a result of the crash. Paramedics took her to the Doctors Medical Center for treatment of possible concussion.
The deputy ended up hospitalized with major injuries. The Modesto Bee and KCRA News wrote that the wreck took place on January 9 shortly after 7 a.m.
Meanwhile, police soon arrested the two men who fought with the officer for felony resisting arrest. The cause of the Newman crash is still under investigation.
