Fatal Hit-and-run Pedestrian Accident Cesar Chavez Parkway and Kearney Avenue
SAN DIEGO, Calif. (Nov. 20, 2019) –Maria Estrada Romero, 52, of San Diego, died Sunday, two days after she was gravely injured by a hit- and-run driver in the Logan Heights area.
Romero was struck by the vehicle about 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 15th. She had been walking near the intersection of Cesar Chavez Parkway and Kearney Avenue, according to the San Diego Medical Examiner’s Office.
The driver in a white Ford F-150 pickup truck struck the victim as the vehicle made a right turn from Cesar Chavez Parkway onto Kearney Avenue, police said. The driver then fled the scene, driving down Kearney Avenue.
The injured woman was transported to UC San Diego Medical Center in Hillcrest. She was diagnosed with a bleed between her brain and skull. Unfortunately, Romero did not recover and was pronounced dead on Sunday at 1:40 p.m.
The suspect vehicle reportedly had a tinted back window and a white California sticker.
The San Diego Police Department’s traffic division are investigating the crash.
