Maria Torres Hit and Severely Injured by Car in Los Angeles’ Crosswalk
LOS ANGELES (December 27, 2017) – A pedestrian severely injured after an alleged hit-and-run collision on Denker Street last month has been identified as Maria Torres, according to KTLA and NBC Los Angeles.
The accident took place on November 12 at about 10 p.m. near Florence Avenue.
As per the article, Los Angeles Police Department’s South Traffic Division said Torres was crossing Denker Street with her children when a black older-model Honda allegedly drove through a red light.
Torres and her 11-year-old son were then struck by the vehicle. The woman was dragged underneath the car about 60 yards.
Police affirmed that Torres sustained broken legs, wrists and arms, back, ribs and collar bone. She also had several lacerations all over her body while her child survived without serious injury.
Meanwhile, witnesses told police the driver involved stuck his middle finger out of the Honda’s window and sped away. The suspect is still at large as of Tuesday evening.
A GoFundMe campaign has been made to raise the funds to help Torres and her family.
Los Angeles Personal Injury Lawyer
Most traffic accidents which involve a motorist who flees the scene can be subjected to serious criminal charges, especially when a particular crash causes serious injuries to another person. Such circumstances are likely considered as “felony hit-and-run,” leaving the victim a legal right to pursue a personal injury lawsuit against the suspect.
Drivers who are involved in car collisions are obliged to stop and provide assistance to the injured individuals and to cooperate with the authorities. In this case, the motorist sped away and left Ms. Maria Torres in the roadway. Aside from that, the suspect is also accused of running a red light and leaving the area intentionally at a high rate of speed.
This leaves Ms. Torres a right to a claim seeking a compensation for all the hospital bills, future medical needs, lost wages, and pain and suffering.
