Maria Viurquez-Benavidez, 33, Killed in Salinas Crash on North Davis Road
SALINAS, CA (May 28, 2023) – Maria Viurquez-Benavidez was killed after a DUI crash on North Davis Road in Salinas.
The sheriff’s office has identified the 33-year-old Salinas woman as victim in the fatal wreck which took place on Saturday.
The incident happened when Maria Viurquez-Benavidez was riding as a passenger in a white Dodge Journey traveling on North Davis Road in Salinas.
A silver BMW in the area spun out of control and crossed the center median into oncoming traffic. In the process, the car slammed head-on into the Dodge.
3 Critically Injured in Wreck
Police said the two vehicles collided in front of the Hacienda Mexican Grill. The KSBW News and KION News wrote that the accident occurred on May 27 at around 9:44 p.m.
Maria Viurquez-Benavidez died as a result of the crash. The 44-year-old driver of the Journey survived the accident with life-threatening injuries.
The 16-year-old boy driving the BMW and his 31-year-old passenger also sustained life-threatening injuries. Paramedics rushed the three patients to the hospital and listed them in critical condition.
Meanwhile, police determined that the teen was under the influence of alcohol when he hit the victims. The cause of the Salinas crash is still under investigation.
Officers forced a stretch North Davis Road to shut down for hours near the restaurant following the wreck.
