MODESTO, Calif. (Sept. 18, 2018) — Four people were injured Tuesday morning in a head-on car accident at S. Carpenter and W. Hatch roads, a California Highway Patrol report said.
The crash took place about 4:52 a.m. between the two vehicles. Three people were pinned in one of the vehicles and one person was pinned in the other vehicle. The cars involved were a white 1999 Saturn and a red 1994 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck.
Police investigating the collision stated that the driver in the Saturn identified as Charysteena Urbina, 24, of Ceres, was heading northbound on Carpenter approaching Hatch Road when she veered into the southbound lane. Her vehicle collided with the pickup truck driven by a 42-year-old Modesto man. The man was critically injured in the crash and taken by ambulance to Memorial Medical Center. Meanwhile, Urbina and her two passengers also suffered major injuries. Mariah Lujan, 23, of Ceres, was taken to Doctors Medical Center. Iliana Garcia Urbina, 20, of Modesto, was taken to Memorial and Charysteena Urbina was taken to Doctors Medical Center.
During the investigation police determined that Urbina was suspected of drunk driving. She was placed under arrested, but due to her hospitalization she was not booked.
