Two Killed; Five Injured in Wrong-Way Driver Crash on Highway 99
FRESNO, Calif. (Dec. 31, 2024) — Mariana Perez Tinajero, 73, of Selma, died in a crash with a wrong-way driver Saturday in Fresno on Highway 99 at Shaw Avenue.
The two-vehicle collision occurred at around 7:18 a.m. on Dec. 28th, according to the Fresno CHP.
A wrong-way driver in a Lexus ES300 was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of Highway 99, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The driver of the Lexus, Paul Weldon, 64, of Fresno, crashed head-on into a Ford F-150 pickup truck driven by a 47-year-old man. The two vehicles spun around and collided with a Honda Civic, driven by a 26-year-old man.
Both Paul Weldon and Mariana Perez Tinajero, who was a passenger in the pickup truck, suffered major injuries and died at the scene.
Meanwhile, five others from the Ford pickup were taken to Community Regional Medical Center for treatment of moderate to major injuries. The driver of the Honda was treated for minor injuries.
Finally, the case remains under investigation.
