
Woman, 19, Killed in Head-on Collision
KERN COUNTY, Calif. (Feb. 5, 2025) — Mariana Lizbeth Rivera Acosta, 19, died in a head-on crash Sunday on Highway 58 near the Interstate 5 Freeway in Buttonwillow in the San Joaquin Valley.
The traffic accident occurred on SR-58 or Hageman Road around 5:57 p.m. on Feb. 2nd, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The woman was driving eastbound on Highway 58 in a 2016 Chevrolet when a driver in a 2023 Dodge crossed into her path and hit her vehicle head-on.
The 22-year-old Buttonwillow man had been traveling westbound and moved into the eastbound lane to pass a slower vehicle.
First responders assisted those involved and confirmed her death after the crash.
Meanwhile, a female passenger and three children in the Dodge were transported to a hospital with moderate and minor injuries respectively. Also, the 22-year-old Dodge driver was treated at the hospital for moderate to major injuries.
The CHP conducted an investigation and tow trucks removed both vehicles involved in the crash to be held for evidence.
Finally, the family of Mariana Lizbeth Rivera Acosta is raising money for funeral expenses.
