Passenger Hurt After Rollover Crash at Means Dry Lake Saturday
Johnson Valley, CA (January 31, 2022) – Maribel Gonzalez, a 27-year-old woman, suffered injuries following an off-road vehicle accident at Means Dry Lake.
The Daily Press News reported Gonzalez was a passenger on the 2022 Polaris RZR driven by 27-year-old Christian Karnes. Preliminary investigation revealed the four-wheel drive off-road vehicle was descending the steep sand dune. For reasons still under investigation, the Polaris overturned at Means Dry Lake. The catastrophic incident took place near the event where The King of the Hammers off-road racing was taking place.
When rescue teams arrived at the location, they found both Gonzalez and Karnes ejected. Responding paramedics performed life-saving measures to the driver but he sadly succumbed to his injuries and died.
Meanwhile, Maribel Gonzalez reportedly received treatment for minor injuries; and apparently declined transportation to a hospital.
Detectives handling the case continue to investigate the precise cause of the fatal crash at Means Dry Lake in Johnson Valley.
