Fatal Car Accident on State Route 52
Kearny Mesa, CA (September 2, 2022) – Police arrested 23-year-old Maricela Elizabeth Diaz following a suspected DUI collision that occurred on State Route 52 on August 26.
According to the San Diego Union-Tribune News, two vehicles crashed head-on on the highway near Interstate 805. The article published online revealed a 49-year-old man was behind the wheel of a Honda traveling west on SR-52. When the Honda approached the area near 805 Freeway, an eastbound Chevrolet pickup veered into the opposite lanes and slammed head-on into the Honda.
Shortly after 2:30 a.m., emergency crews arrived at the location. Responding paramedics immediately rendered aid to all parties found at the scene. Authorities later confirmed the driver of the Honda, Roberto Mendez Sanchez, sadly died in the crash.
Detective discovered the driver of the Chevrolet had a blood-alcohol content twice the legal limit for driving. For this reason, police arrested Maricela Elizabeth Diaz on suspicion of drunken driving.
Further investigation on the case is ongoing.
