Marie Morris and Phil Morris Victims in Santee Plane Crash
SANTEE, CA (October 12, 2021) – Marie Morris and Phil Morris were hospitalized after a fatal plane crash in Santee.
The San Diego Union-Tribune and ABC 10 News identified the Santee couple as two of the three victims in the accident on Monday afternoon.
The incident began when Marie Morris and Phil Morris were inside their home in Santee near Greencastle and Jeremy streets.
For an unknown reason, a twin-engine Cessna C340 crashed in the neighborhood. The aircraft operated by Sugata Das hit a UPS truck and several houses in the area.
The small plane left Yuma, Arizona to go to the Montgomery-Gibbs Executive Field in Kearny Mesa when it crashed. Two homes, including the couple’s house, ended up burned.
UPS Truck Driver and Pilot Killed
The incident took place on October 11 at around 12:15 p.m. near Greencastle and Jeremy streets. Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived at the scene, east of the Santana High School.
Marie Morris and Phil Morris sustained burns as a result of the plane crash. The man suffered injuries to his head, one side of his face, and his arms and legs.
The woman sustained 3rd-degree burns on her head, face, and arms and hands. Medical personnel then rushed them to a hospital for treatment.
Family members set up a GoFundMe page to help cover the hospital bills of the wounded victims.
Officers confirmed that the driver of the UPS truck and the pilot died following the incident. Meanwhile, the cause of the Santee plane crash is still under investigation.
