Marine Fatally Struck by Vehicle
SAN DIEGO, California (October 11, 2016) –A 28-year-old Grant Weidman, an active duty Camp Pendleton Marine, has died after been ran-over by a car on the Interstate 8 Freeway, according to the San Diego Medical Examiner’s website.
The fatal pedestrian accident took place at about 3:21 a.m. in the College Area. The female driver who struck Weidman told authorities that the victim was lying across the westbound No. 1 lane of the freeway. Unfortunately, the driver was unable to stop in time to avoid hitting Weidman. The woman called 911 for police, but the young Marine died of his injuries at the scene.
An investigation into what led to the man being on the freeway is underway. Liability will be determined by police.
