Mario Armando Paz Jr, 24, ID’d as Suspect in Placentia Fatal DUI Crash Placentia
PLACENTIA, CA (January 26, 2023) – Authorities detained Mario Armando Paz Jr after a fatal DUI crash killed that killed several people in Placentia.
Police determined that the 24-year-old Santa Ana man was under the influence when the accident occurred on Wednesday.
The incident began when Mario Armando Paz Jr was driving a black Honda Civic west in the area of Orangethorpe Avenue and Melrose Street in Placentia.
At the same time, a white large van was going south on Melrose Street. Police said the suspect ran a red light at the intersection and then struck the other vehicle.
The two crashed just east of the 57 Freeway. Multiple occupants became ejected from the van as a result of the collision.
3 Killed, 5 Injured in Wreck
The Orange County Register and KTLA News wrote that the wreck took place on January 25 at about 8:45 p.m. Two adults riding the van died at the scene.
Deputies identified the deceased victims as Alberto Vincente Lopez, 36, of Anaheim; Gregoria Ramirez, 65, of Placentia. A total of five more individuals ended up hurt in the collision.
Paramedics rushed three of them to the UC Irvine Medical Center in Orange with serious injuries. Medical personnel took the other two, described as children, to the Children’s Hospital Orange County.
One child, a 10-year-old boy, passed away. Meanwhile, police soon arrested Mario Armando Paz Jr for felony DUI following the crash.
