Mario Bernardino Argil, 46, Seriously Injured in Kern County Crash on Highway 119
KERN COUNTY, CA (June 1, 2023) – A fatal crash seriously injured Mario Bernardino Argil on Highway 119 in Kern County.
The California Highway Patrol identified the 46-year-old Bakersfield man as one of the victims in the wreck which took place on Wednesday.
The incident happened when Mario Bernardino Argil was driving a Ford F-250 east on Highway 119 in Kern County. He was traveling ahead of a 2019 GMC 2500.
At the same time, a 2005 GMC Sierra 1500 was going west. For an unknown reason, the 2019 GMC swerved into the westbound lanes and slammed into the Ford.
Multiple Cars Collide
CHP said the driver of the GMC 2500, 45-year-old Taft resident Joel Frakes, then struck the GMC 1500 head-on. The cars crashed east of Coles Levee Road.
The Bakersfield Californian and Kern Golden Empire wrote that the collision occurred on May 31 at about 5:29 a.m. The motorist in the GMC 1500, a 56-year-old Bakersfield man, died at the scene of the accident.
Both Mario Bernardino Argil and Joel Frakes sustained major injuries as a result of the crash. Paramedics rushed them to the Kern Medical for treatment.
Officers forced Highway 119 to shut down for more than three hours following the wreck. The cause of the Kern County crash is still under investigation.
