Mario Hernandez, 31, ID’d as Suspect in Stevinson DUI Crash at 3rd and Edminster
MERCED COUNTY, CA (October 11, 2021) – Authorities detained Mario Hernandez after a DUI crash at 3rd Avenue and Edminster Road in Stevinson.
The California Highway Patrol determined that the 31-year-old Stevinson man was under the influence when the wreck took place on Sunday.
The incident began when Mario Alberto Hernandez was driving a 2000 GMC Sierra south on Edminster Road, approaching 3rd Avenue, in Stevinson.
At the same time, a 2002 Dodge Caravan was going east on 3rd Avenue. CHP said Mario Hernandez then ran a posted stop sign and failed to yield to traffic.
Joseph Lewis, 50, Seriously Injured in Car Crash
In the process, the GMC struck the Dodge in the intersection and rolled over. The Merced Sun Star wrote that accident occurred on October 10 at about 1:45 p.m.
The driver of the Caravan, 50-year-old Turlock Joseph Lewis, sustained major injuries as a result of the collision. An air ambulance rushed him to the Doctors Medical Center in Modesto for treatment.
Meanwhile, CHP then arrested Mario Hernandez on suspicion of felony DUI. He did not suffer any wound following the wreck.
Officers took him to Mercy Medical Center in Merced for medical clearance and soon booked him into Merced County Jail. The Stevinson DUI crash is still under investigation.
