Worker Helping Stranded Motorist is Truck and Killed in Woodside
WOODSIDE, Calif. (June 29, 2020) –Mark Alarcon, 61, of Dublin, has been identified as the Bay Area Freeway Service Patrol driver who was killed Tuesday afternoon while helping a stranded motorist on the I-280 Freeway in Woodside.
The fatal crash took place about 3:40 p.m. on the right shoulder of the Interstate 280 Freeway, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Mark Alarcon was standing outside of his vehicle, when an oncoming red lumber truck crashed into both the man and his vehicle.
The crash took place between Edgewood Road and Farm Hill Boulevard, police said.
The victim was later identified by the San Mateo County Coroner’s Office.
Meanwhile, the 25-year-old San Jose man driving the lumber truck stopped and cooperated with authorities on scene.
Liability for Mark Alarcon’s death is under investigation.
