SAN DIEGO, Calif. (April 10, 2025) — Mark Maisel, 70, was struck and killed in a pedestrian accident Sunday on Brookburn Drive in the Carmel Valley area of San Diego.
The deadly collision occurred around 6 p.m. on April 6th in the 5000 block of Brookburn Drive, according to the San Diego Medical Examiner.
The 70-year-old man and his wife were walking their dog in the neighborhood near their home. His wife crossed Brookburn Drive ahead of him and he waited for two cars to pass before stepping into the street. That’s when a driver in a Lexus struck him and threw him. The man was thrown into the roadway and the driver pulled over and stopped.
Mark Maisel was unresponsive and the driver exited their vehicle and provided aid while his wife called 911. An ambulance transported him to Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla where he later died at 6:53 p.m. the same day. The victim’s dog was injured in the collision, but its condition is unknown at this time.
The San Diego Police Department is heading up the investigation. It’s unknown if speed was a factor in the crash, but there is a 25 mph speed limit here and also a blind curve in the 5000 block of Brookburn Drive.
