Mark Osborne, 53, Seriously Injured in Sebastopol Crash on High School Road
SEBASTOPOL, CA (May 14, 2021) – Mark Osborne was seriously injured after a DUI crash on High School Road in Sebastopol.
The California Highway Patrol identified the 53-year-old Santa Rosa man as one of the victims in the accident which occurred on Wednesday.
The incident happened when Mark Osborne was riding a bicycle north on the right shoulder of High School Road in Sebastopol. Another bicyclist, a 12-year-old boy, was traveling separately in the area.
At the same time, Ulises Valdez was driving a Ram Rebel at a high rate of speed on High School Road. The speeding car approached the cyclists from behind and then spun out of control on a left curve.
The pickup drove onto the shoulder and hit the juvenile rider. CHP said the truck continued spinning back into the traffic lane and onto the right shoulder.
Ulises Valdez, 27, Arrested For DUI
Ulises Valdez ultimately struck Mark Osborne. Both Mark Osborne and the child ended up suffering from major injuries as a result of the collision.
Paramedics rushed them to the Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital for treatment. Medical personnel transferred the boy to the UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland.
The Press Democrat wrote that the crash took place on May 12 at about 6 p.m., south of Gaye Road. Meanwhile, the Rebel went off the road and came to a stop after slamming into a utility pole and a tree.
Officials also took Valdez to the same hospital for treatment of major injuries. CHP determined that the 27-year-old Sebastopol man was under the influence of alcohol when he crashed into the victims.
Authorities soon arrested him on suspicion of felony DUI. The Sebastopol DUI crash is still under investigation. Anyone with information can call the CHP at 707-588-1400.
