3 Killed in Crash with Big Rig Truck in Bakersfield
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (Sept. 14, 2022) — Martha Alicia Flores, 48, and Monte Harold Johnson, 65, both of Arvin, died Friday night in a collision with a big rig truck at Malaga Road and Sunset Boulevard.
The deadly two-vehicle crash occurred about 10 p.m. on Sept. 9th near Arvin, according to Bakersfield Californian and the California Highway Patrol.
CHP officers responded to the intersection and found a blue 2017 Volvo tractor trailer truck had crashed into a 1997 Honda at the intersection.
The truck driver allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign and broadsided the Honda occupied by three people including its driver Martha Flores and Monte Johnson. The third person who died has not been identified.
All three people from the Honda died at the crash scene. The family of Martha Flores has a GoFundMe account to raise money for her funeral.
Investigators with the California Highway Patrol do not suspect drugs or alcohol were factors, police said. It’s unknown at this time if there are any arrests.
Witnesses may call the CHP at 661-396-6600.
