Woman Killed in Chula Vista Crash Identified
CHULA VISTA, Calif. (June 7, 2021) – Martha Villalobos Romo, 57, of San Diego, died in a collision involving a motorist who was allegedly street racing at Third Avenue and L Street in Chula Vista.
According to the San Diego Union-Tribune and NBC San Diego the crash happened about 6 p.m. on Saturday, June 5th.
A driver in a Ford Mustang and a white Subaru WRX were allegedly racing on L Street in Chula Vista. The Mustang was heading eastbound in the westbound lane as it approached Third Avenue.
The Mustang allegedly ran through a red light at the intersection and crashed head-on into a Nissan Altima driven by Marth Villalobos Romo.
Additionally, two more cars behind the Nissan also crashed into the car and one another.
Wrong-Way Driver, 2 Children Injured in Collision
Firefighters arrived at the scene and pronounced the Martha Villalobos Romo dead at the scene. Two children riding in the Nissan with her were injured in the collision.
Meanwhile, a total of three people including the two children and the wrong-way driver were taken to local hospitals for treatment.
The fatal Chula Vista street racing crash is still under investigation. Witnesses may contact police at 619-409-3817.
