Yucca Valley Man, 34, Killed in Crash on I-10 Freeway
WHITEWATER, Calif. (March 17, 2023) — Martin Garcia, 34, of Yucca Valley, died in a 3-vehicle crash on Thursday morning on the eastbound Interstate 10 Freeway in the Whitewater area.
The multi-vehicle collision occurred about 8:48 a.m. on March 16th, just west of Haugen Lehmann Way, according to a California Highway Patrol dispatch.
Martin Garcia was driving a Toyota Sienna when it collided first with a Ford F-680 construction vehicle and then a Nissan.
One of the vehicles went off the roadway during the collision.
Apparently, the Ford had slowed down to enter a construction area in the center median when the Toyota crashed into the back of the Ford, according to the Desert Sun. Upon impact, the Toyota also crashed into a Nissan traveling on the right side of the van.
Martin Garcia suffered fatal injuries following the crash and died at the scene, the Riverside County Sheriff Coroner reported. Additionally, the 47-year-old Victorville man from the Ford and the 37-year-old Desert Hot Springs woman driving the Nissan, did not report any immediate injuries, police said.
The Nissan had minor damage and the Ford had rear-end damage.
Tow trucks removed at least one of the damaged vehicles from the freeway.
Investigators are working on the case to determine fault.
