Man Killed in Fiery Crash ID’d
SANGER, Calif. (June 21, 2023) — Martin Hernandez, 49, of Sanger, died in a crash on Highway 180 early Wednesday morning, just west of North Bethal Avenue in Sanger.
The two-vehicle collision occurred around 3:10 a.m. on June 17th in the eastbound lanes of State Route 180, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The CHP dispatch reported Amber Alva, 23, of Sanger, was driving a black Dodge Charger that allegedly rear-ended a Honda Odyssey at high speed. The van driven by Martin Hernandez was pushed off the roadway and crashed into a tree where it caught on fire after the collision.

The Sanger Police Department and CAL Fire responded to help those involved, but sadly the driver of the Honda died at the scene. Meanwhile, four people from the Dodge Charger suffered undisclosed injuries and were transported to Community Regional Medical Center.
Meanwhile, Amber Alva was arrested after the collision. She is due in court on June 2
Caltrans closed down Highway 180 at South Indianola Avenue.
Police are piecing together what happened and are conducting an investigation to determine fault.
