Bus and Car Accident Highway 99 at Gerber Road
TEHAMA COUNTY, Calif. (Jan. 7, 2020) — Mary Ann Griffin, 74, of Corning, was among several people aboard a transit bus who were injured Tuesday morning when a car crashed into it on Highway 99 at Gerber Road.
The bus was struck by a 1990 Ford Mustang driven by a 17-year-old Los Molinos boy. The teenager was driving eastbound on Gerber Road when he allegedly pulled out into the path of the 2017 Ford E-450 TRAX (Tehama County) transit bus. The bus, driven by Steven Darrough, 68, of Red Bluff, was heading northbound on Highway 99 when it crashed into the side of the Mustang.
Upon impact, both the driver of the Mustang and his 14-year-old passenger were ejected. Police say the boys were not wearing seatbelts.
The crash was reported at 7:51 a.m. to the California Highway Patrol.
Griffin was among three bus passengers hurt. The others were Ronnie Allemand, 41, of Corning, and Anthony Leon, 66, of Red Bluff. They all suffered minor to moderate injuries and were taken to Mercy Medical Center.
The 14-year-old Gerber boy was transported by ambulance to St. Elizabeth Community Hospital for treatment of major injuries. The 17-year-old Los Molinos boy was also critically injured and was taken to Mercy Medical Center.
The crash remains under investigation by the CHP to determine liability.
