1 Killed, 3 Injured in Chain-Reaction Collision
FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (May 20, 2024) — Mary Hardin, 65, of Helotes, Texas, died and three people were injured Saturday in a crash involving a suspected DUI driver on Highway 41 in Fresno County.
UPDATE: Paul Hardin, 69, died in the hospital on Monday, according to the Fresno County Sheriff-Coroner’s Office.
The victim was visiting the Central Valley area as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, according to ABC 30 News.
The deadly, two-vehicle collision occurred at around 8:30 p.m. on May 18th, at the intersection with Manning Avenue, the report said.
The suspect, David Alvarado, 54, of Madera, reportedly crashed his Ford pickup truck into the back of the victim’s Nissan as it was stopped at a red light. Her car was pushed a Camaro stopped in front of her vehicle.
Mary Hardin sustained major injuries and died at the scene, according to the Fresno County Coroner’s Office. The woman’s husband, Paul Hardin, was transported to a hospital with major injuries, but he later died at the hospital.
Meanwhile, a man driving the Camaro and the Ford driver were treated at the hospital for minor injuries.
Investigators working on the case determined the man driving the Ford pickup truck was driving under the influence and he was arrested following the crash. The suspect was reportedly on probation and has previous DUI arrests, ABC 30 News reported.
The investigation into the fatality collision is ongoing.
