Valley Center Woman, 78, Killed in Head-on Crash; 2 Injured
VALLEY CENTER, Calif. (March 16, 2022) – Mary Plount, 78, of Valley Center, died died following a traffic accident on Lilac Road, just a mile north of Valley Center Road.
The collision happened about 5:50 a.m. on Tuesday, March 15th, the San Diego Union-Tribune and the San Diego Medical Examiner reported.
Two vehicles collided head-on when one motorist veered into the path of the other one. A 62-year-old man driving a grey Lexus ES 350 was traveling eastbound on Lilac Road. He allegedly veered into the westbound lane into the path of a Chevrolet Bolt driven by a 72-year-old man with Mary Plount as the front-seat passenger.
Paramedics responded and located all three people with serious injuries. They took the Valley Center woman by ambulance to Palomar Medical Center in Escondido. Sadly, she later died due to major blunt force trauma from the crash. The other two were treated for their injuries at the hospital, but they are not life-threatening.
At this time, detectives continue to work to determine the precise cause of the fatal crash on Lilac Road in Valley Center. Witnesses may contact the CHP’s Oceanside office at (760) 643-3400.
