ENCINITAS (May 12, 2016)- According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, a 73-year-old Massachusetts woman was struck by a delivery truck Wednesday evening at the intersection of Santa Fe and Balour drives.
The collision took place at 5:40 p.m. when the delivery truck driver, a 22-year-old man, struck the victim as he admitted that he had been looking at his GPS system as he entered the intersection failing to see the woman.
The victim whose name remains undisclosed sustained major injuries including a head injury. She remains in the ICU at a trauma center in the San Diego County area.
As the incident continues to be investigated, California Highway Patrol officials confirmed that neither drugs nor alcohol were involved in the collision.
