Suspect, 1 Other Hurt in Collision Near Esplanade Thursday
Chico, CA (January 13, 2022) – Police arrested 31-year-old Mathew Dick in relation with a DUI car crash that occurred in the area of Highway 99 and Esplanade.
The Action News Now reported Mathew Dick was behind the wheel of a black Volvo heading north on Esplanade. At about the same time, a big rig was traveling south on the highway in Chico.
According to the article published online the black Volvo failed to yield to a stop sign at the intersection of Highway 99 and Esplanade. Mathew Dick apparently accelerated through the crossing and drove in front of the big rig. Officials said the truck operator slammed on the brakes but still collided with the car. The big rig hit the left rear of the Volvo causing it to rotate counterclockwise.
When emergency crews arrived at the site, they found the two drivers with minor injuries. Responding paramedics treated the truck operator at the scene.
Mathew Dick Arrested in Chico DUI Car Crash on Highway 99
Meanwhile, an ambulance reportedly transported Mathew Dick to Enloe Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries. After he was medically cleared, police arrested the man for DUI.
Further investigation is underway on the car crash at Highway 99 and Esplanade.
