WOODLAND: Matthew Gonzales Killed in Crash at Woodland and Palm Avenues; Trevor Wright Arrested
WOODLAND, California — According to an article by KCRA, 16-year-old Matthew Gonzales died after a police chase ended in a car crash at Woodland and Palm avenues in Yolo County.
On March 2, Woodland police saw a Gonzales, a 17-year-old and an 18-year-old, identified as Trevor James Wright, getting into a vehicle about 3:50 p.m. on Wisconsin Avenue. The police then launched a pursuit as they were trying to arrest one from the mentioned parties.
Wright was driving the vehicle when he saw the police cars following them, and he decided to take off at a high rate of speed.
At the intersection, Wright lost control, sent the car airborne, and ended hitting a parked vehicle and a tree.
Gonzales and the 17-year-old passenger were both extricated from the wreck and taken to UC Medical Center. Gonzales died at the hospital while the other teen was being treated in unstable condition, as per KCRA.
Officials affirmed Wright was taken into custody following the incident on several charges—including vehicular manslaughter, eluding a peace officer causing death, felony hit-and-run and driving under the influence of a drug causing bodily injury.
