Woman, 20, Killed in Hollister DUI Hit-and-Run on Hillcrest Road
HOLLISTER (December 25, 2019) – An alleged DUI hit-and-run driver killed a pedestrian along Hillcrest Road on Monday evening.
According to an article published by KION News, police said on December 23 a female pedestrian was struck by a van in the 1500 block of Hillcrest Road.
Paramedics responded to the scene and confirmed that the a 20-year-old woman died as a result of the crash. Her name has not been yet released pending notification of next of kin.
Suspected DUI Hit-and-Run Driver Matthew Echevarria, 31, Arrested
Meanwhile, police affirmed that the driver of the vehicle did not stop to render aid and sped away. Officers later arrested the suspect who has been identified as 31-year-old Matthew Echevarria.
Authorities believed that Echevarria was driving under the influence of a controlled substance when he fatally hit the victim.
They booked the Hollister man into the San Benito County Jail for a series of charges including gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, DUI causing injury and hit-and-run from an injury collision.
