2-Vehicle Crash on Interstate 5 Freeway in Newhall Pass
GRANADA HILLS, Calif. (Sept. 17, 2018) – Matthew L. Fielding, 25, of La Crescenta was killed in a two-vehicle crash on the Interstate 5 Freeway in Newhall Pass, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Fielding was struck and killed about 11:10 a.m. Sunday in the truck lanes of the southbound freeway, just north of Balboa Boulevard.
The motorcyclist reportedly crashed into the right side of a silver 2002 BMW that was also traveling southbound. The BMW was in the No. 6 lane approaching the Foothill (210) Freeway. Fielding’s 1995 Kawasaki motorcycle slammed into its passenger side.
There were no reported injuries to the man and woman in the vehicle. It’s unknown at this time what led to the collision or which driver is at fault. A full investigation is underway by police.
Los Angeles County Crash Investigation
The investigation into this collision is underway to determine fault. There are certainly many unanswered questions such as whether or not the BMW veered into the path of the rider or the other way around. Hopefully there are witnesses to help police piece together what sequence of events leading up to this crash.
