Maurelle Cater Killed, 1 Badly Injured in Highway 4 Car Crash
PITTSBURG (June 18, 2018) – A driver was killed, and a passenger was injured in a traffic collision Sunday morning on Highway 4.
The Contra Costa County Coroner’s Office identified on Monday the fatality as 25-year-old Maurelle Cater, of Antioch.
According to East Bay Times, Cater was driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee on Highway 4 at about 9:35 a.m. For unknown reasons, Cater allowed the vehicle to veer off the roadway. Officials said the Jeep slammed into a concrete curb and overturned on the highway, just west of the Loveridge Road off-ramp.
Preliminary investigation revealed Cater was ejected during the crash. The driver was reportedly found lifeless at the scene.

Furthermore, first responders also found a female party at the crash site. The woman, believed to be a passenger in the Jeep, was also thrown out of the vehicle and suffered injuries as a result of the wreck. The victim was reportedly transported to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek where she was listed in critical condition. The name of the patient have not been disclosed thus far.
