Couple Killed in Crash Involving Suspected DUI Driver in Bakersfield
WEST BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (March 18, 2025) — Max Austin Mooney and Desiree Paula Noelle Mooney both died early Sunday when a suspected DUI driver hit the Uber vehicle they were riding in at Stockdale Highway and Coffee Road in Bakersfield.
The suspect, 21-year-old Annabel Correa, is now facing murder charges following the deadly March 16th collision, according to Bakersfield Now. Speed and alcohol are factors police believe contributed to the fatal collision.
Police say Annabel Correa was driving eastbound in a white Hyundai failed to stop and drove through a stop light around 1:37 a.m. before hitting the southbound Uber vehicle occupied by a driver and her three passengers.

The married Bakersfield couple, who were both 30 years old, were among three passengers in the Uber headed home after a night out. The suspect crashed into their car and caused the rideshare vehicle to slam into a brick wall, the report said.
Paramedics confirmed the man’s death at the scene and transported the woman to Kern Medical where she later died.
The female Uber driver and another female passenger, along with the suspect and her passenger, were hospitalized with minor to moderate injuries following the crash at this dangerous intersection.
