Maywood Academy band teacher Marston Riley arrested after fight with student

The 64-year-old music teacher was out on bail Saturday morning following his arrest.
The incident was recorded on other student’s cell phones and shows the teacher asking the teenager to leave because he was not dressed in uniform. The student ignores the teacher’s request and uses racial slurs and throws a basketball at Riley. As the music teacher calls for assistance on his cell phone, the altercation escalates and Riley punches the student in the face. The teacher continues to fight with the student, hitting the teenager multiple times in a rage likely stemming from the racial insults aimed at him.
A campus staff member tries to separate the two and eventually the fight ends with the student being pulled from the classroom.

The entire fight takes place in front of a classroom full of students.

Many students and others defended the teacher, but others say his actions were wrong despite being provoked by the student.

The 14-year-old boy was hospitalized with moderate injuries and later released.

Riley was arrested and taken to jail, but later released at 8 a.m. on Saturday after posting $50,000 bail.

He was scheduled to be arraigned on Nov. 30.
