Two-Vehicle Crash on Volcanic Legacy Scenic Byway (SR-89)
SISKIYOU COUNTY, Calif. (Jan. 8, 2021) — A McCloud car accident involving two vehicles was reported Friday on State Route 89 also known as Volcanic Scenic Highway.
The collision happened about 11:21 a.m., just east of Dead Horse Canyon Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A driver in a white Chevrolet Impala was allegedly speeding prior to the collision, according to a witness with the last name Bolton. The vehicle collided with a silver Mitsubishi Outlander SUV. Both vehicles had major front-end damage and the Impala also had rear damage after it veered off the roadway into a snowy embankment.
Cal Fire firefighters responded to treat one person with a possible ankle injury. It’s unknown at this time if others were hurt in the crash, nor whether anyone was hospitalized.
The CHP is heading up the investigation into the crash and will determine fault. Both vehicles were towed from the scene of the McCloud car accident.
