Discovery Bay Woman Arrested DUI, Hit-and-run for 2 Separate Head-on Crashes
CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, Calif. (Nov. 5, 2018) — Megan Campbell, 33, of Discovery Bay, was arrested following two separate head-on collisions that left at least six people injured on Highway 4.
The initial crash was at 5:12 p.m. between Campbell’s white Subaru and a motorcyclist on the J4 section of the East County freeway, just east of Byron Highway. The suspect collided with the motorcyclist and then fled the scene. Roughly 500 feet from the first collision, Campbell crashed head-on with a Saturn sedan, according to the he California Highway Patrol.
4 Airlifted to Hospitals; 2 Ground Ambulances
More than a dozen emergency responders with the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District headed to the scene with four engines and four ambulances.
The motorcyclist was critically injured in the crash with Campbell’s Subaru. Five others were also injured including three with major injuries and two with moderate injuries.
One person who was in the Saturn was rescued using the “Jaws of Life” to remove them as they were trapped in the vehicle.
Two of the injured were flown to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek. Two others were airlifted to Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley. Two more were taken by ground ambulance to Sutter Delta Medical Center in Antioch.
Campbell was detained by police after the collision and arrested on suspicion of felony driving under the influence.

Contra Costa Accident Investigation
Police are reviewing the evidence and any witness statements to determine fault. It appears based on the preliminary investigation that Ms. Campbell will be held liable for the two collisions. The investigation will consist of looking at measurements, going over evidence left by the vehicles such as point of impact, final resting positions of the vehicles, skid marks, and gouge marks.
