Victims Killed in Wrong-way Crash Identified as Megan Cota and Tulio Viana
PACIFICA, Calif. (Feb. 13, 2019) — Two passengers who were traveling in a car driven by a wrong-way driver on Saturday were killed in a collision on state Highway 1 in Pacifica.
Now the victims have been identified by the San Mateo County coroner’s office as Tulio de Giovanni Lima Viana, 23, of Daly City, and Megan Alyssa Cota, 23, of San Francisco.
The victims were riding in a Toyota Prius that was driving south in northbound lanes of the highway, police said.
The Prius collided head-on with a Chevrolet Silverado near Clarendon Road about 4:15 a.m. The driver, who is believed to be Viana’s brother, was critically injured in the crash. He was transported by ambulance to San Francisco General Hospital.
Also injured in the crash were the two people in the Silverado. They were both taken to a hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening.
The crash is under investigation to determine whether or not drugs or alcohol contributed to the collision.
