Melanie Feliciano, 24, Killed in DUI Crash on Highway 94
LOCATION: Spring Valley, San Diego County
DATE OF COLLISION: Monday, September 17th
September 20, 2018 – One person was killed, and two others were injured in a traffic collision on eastbound Highway 94 Monday afternoon, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.
The fatality was identified as 24-year-old Melanie Alexandra Feliciano.
As per the article, Feliciano was sitting on the center console between the driver and passenger when their 1999 Mercedes-Benz rolled off the highway. Primary reports indicated the driver lost control of the car, then swerved towards the center divider and struck the barrier made of wood and steel. The sedan reportedly landed upside down on the barrier before rolling into the median on the opposite side of the highway.
Shortly after 1:50 p.m., emergency crews responded to the crash site near the Campo Road and Sweetwater Springs Boulevard exit.

The victim was rushed to Sharp Memorial Hospital where she was sadly pronounced deceased at 3:09 p.m., according to the Medical Examiner’s Office. Medical records indicated Feliciano died of blunt force injury to her head and neck.
DUI Driver Rene Ruiz Arrested After Hit-and-Run Accident in Spring Valley
Meanwhile, authorities mentioned the Mercedes-Benz driver and a front seat passenger fled the scene. Officials identified the driver as 27-year-old Rene Ruiz, and the front seat passenger as a 22-year-old La Mesa woman. Officials said both parties were found hiding in a canyon near the crash site.
Authorities confirmed Ruiz was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, hit-and-run and vehicular manslaughter.
