Melanie Feliciano, 24, Killed in DUI Crash on Highway 94
SPRING VALLEY, Calif. (Sept. 20, 2018) – Melanie Alexandra Feliciano. died and two others were injured in a crash on eastbound Highway 94 Monday afternoon, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.
Feliciano was reportedly seated on the center console between the driver and passenger in the 1999 Mercedes-Benz when it overturned on the highway. The driver lost control of the car for unknown reasons, swerved towards the center divider and struck the wood and steel barrier. The sedan reportedly landed upside down on the barrier and then rolled to the opposite side of the highway.
The collision was reported about 1:50 p.m. near the Campo Road and Sweetwater Springs Boulevard exit.
Paramedics rushed to the scene and found Feliciano trapped in the wreckage. The victim was rushed to Sharp Memorial Hospital where she died about 3:09 p.m., according to the Medical Examiner’s Office.
Meanwhile, the Mercedes-Benz driver and a front seat passenger fled the scene. Rene Ruiz, 27, the driver, and the front seat passenger as a 22-year-old La Mesa woman were later found hiding in a canyon near the crash site.
Ruiz was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, hit-and-run and vehicular manslaughter.

The collision remains under investigation by police.
