Man Dead; Melissa Murga, Jada Franco and Abby Franco Injured in Diamond Bar Hit-and-Run Crash
DIAMOND BAR (November 26, 2017) – One was killed and six others were injured after a traffic collision on the 60 Freeway early Sunday morning, according to KTLA.
The accident occurred just after 3 .m. on the eastbound 60 freeway, just west of Diamond Bar Boulevard.
As per the article, California Highway Patrol said a 2001 Chevrolet Impala driven by 30-year-old Melissa Murga became disabled in the carpool lane after being involved in a minor collision with another vehicle.
Murga was traveling with a 29-year-old man and two children at the time. All are from Pomona.
At the same time, 32-year-old Hesperia resident John Swick was driving a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck at an alleged unsafe speed for existing traffic conditions on the freeway. The pickup approached the stopped Impala and struck it from behind.
The 29-year-old man and a baby were ejected from the Impala as a result of the crash. The seat belts of the two victims were reportedly unfastened as they were about to exit their car when it was hit.
CHP affirmed that the man died at the scene while Murga and the infant, 1-year-old Abby Franco, were seriously injured. A 9-year-old boy Jada Franco suffered minor injuries while another occupant of the Impala, only identified as E. Franco, was also hurt in the wreck.
Swick sustained minor wounds and his passenger, 31-year-old Ashley Stevens, had major injuries upon impact.
Meanwhile, witnesses told the CHP that the male driver of the first car the Impala collided with abandoned his dark-colored Honda CRV and fled on foot after the initial collision. The motorist was allegedly speeding and driving erratically prior to the incident.
San Gabriel Valley Tribune wrote that the suspect was located and later arrested on suspicion of hit-and-run. The investigation is ongoing.
We offer our prayers and most heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the deceased man during such a difficult time. We also wish the injured victims a swift and full recovery.
Los Angeles County Wrongful Death and Personal Injury Lawyer
Motorists in general are obliged to practice road safety precautions and follow traffic laws to avoid auto accidents. In this case, authorities are investigating whether the driver who allegedly fled the scene after the initial crash without rendering assistance to the victims in the other car and the third motorist who is accused of driving at unsafe speed for existing traffic conditions at the time will be held responsible for causing the tragic incident.
Once the investigation process is over and it proves that a negligent party has disregarded the safety of others and has led to the death and injuries of other individuals, the family of the deceased man and the injured people may have the right to pursue a wrongful death or personal injury lawsuit seeking recompense for the funeral costs, hospital bills, loss of future income, loss of love and companionship and pain and suffering.
