Passenger Killed, Driver Injured in Collision Near Sultana Drive Tuesday
Livingston, CA (October 6, 2021) – Meliton Gutierrez, a 19-year-old Atwater resident, died following a car crash that occurred on Westside Boulevard near Livingston.
The catastrophic incident took place on October 5, Tuesday.
According to Merced Sun-Star, Meliton Gutierrez was a passenger in a 1997 Ford Explorer traveling west on Westside Boulevard. When the vehicle approached the area near Sultana Drive, the unidentified driver lost control of the car for an unknown reason.
Officials said the Ford Explorer overturned multiple times before coming to a rest on the dirt shoulder of the road. The article published online mentioned the vehicle struck multiple almond trees in the area.
Meliton Gutierrez, 19 Killed in Livingston Car Crash
Shortly after 4 a.m., emergency crews arrived at the location. First responders found Meliton Gutierrez and the driver both ejected. Despite life-saving measures, the passenger sadly succumbed to his injuries and died. The Merced County Sheriff Coroner’s Office identified the fatal victim as Meliton Gutierrez.
Authorities mentioned the driver sustained major injuries as a result of the wreck. A helicopter landed near the crash site, then transported the injured driver to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto for treatment of serious injuries.
At this time, detectives handling the case continue to investigate the precise cause of the deadly car crash in Livingston.
