MENDOCINO COUNTY, CA (October 6, 2022) – A crash left two people seriously injured on Highway 1 near Gualala in Mendocino County.
According to an article published by The Willits News, the accident took place on Tuesday morning. Officers reported the wreck at around 11:25 a.m.
The incident happened on October 4 when a 1999 Dodge 2500 full-size pickup truck was going south on Highway 1 near Gualala at about 50 mph.
At the same time, a 2016 Kia Sorento SUV was traveling north at about 45 mph. For an unknown reason, the Dodge drove onto the west side of the road near mile marker 3.33.
2 Cars Collide
The pickup truck tried to correct, failed and in the process struck the left side of the Kia. The California Highway Patrol said the Dodge continued, slammed into a guardrail, and then rolled onto its roof.
The Sorento continued north and hit a dirt embankment. The driver of the pickup truck, a 32-year-old Point Arena woman, sustained major injuries as a result of the collision.
The 72-year-old Gualala woman driving the SUV survived the incident with moderate injuries. Paramedics arrived and rushed both patients to the Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital for treatment.
The names of the wounded parties and their condition at this time were not disclosed. Meanwhile, CHP forced the northbound lanes of Highway 1 to shut down following the wreck.
The cause of the Gualala crash is still under investigation.
