Man, 41, Killed in Mendocino County Hit-and-Run on Sherwood Road
MENDOCINO COUNTY, CA (May 7, 2021) – A pedestrian was killed after a hit-and-run crash on Sherwood Road in Mendocino County.
According to an article published by The Times Standard, the tragic accident occurred early Friday. Officers reported the collision at about 1:20 a.m. east of Birch Terrace.
The incident happened when a male pedestrian was walking west on the south asphalt shoulder of Sherwood Road in Mendocino County. At the same time, a vehicle was going west on Sherwood.
For an unknown reason, the driver crossed over the solid double yellow lines. The California Highway Patrol said the car veered into the eastbound lane and struck the 41-year-old man.
Driver Hits Pedestrian, Flees Scene
Firefighters along with the paramedics responded to the scene and found the victim left lying on the ground. He died as a result of the collision.
The name of the deceased pedestrian has not been yet released pending notification of next of kin. Meanwhile, CHP affirmed that the motorist did not stop to render aid to the man and fled westbound.
Officials described the car involved as a silver 2018-2020 Hyundai Accent. The Hyundai obtained front damage on the left headlight assembly and the front bumper.
Authorities are still searching for the suspect. The fatal Mendocino County hit-and-run crash is still under investigation.
