2 Injured in Mendocino Crash near Center Street
MENDOCINO (August 8, 2017) – Two people were injured in a traffic collision involving a big rig on Highway 101 Tuesday morning, according to the Press Democrat.
Officials said the accident happened at about 10:20 a.m. between a big rig driven by a 65-year-old man of Hopland hauling pressed grapes and a Chevy Silverado pickup towing a camp trailer.
As per the article, the two pickup occupants- a 73-year-old man and a 70-year-old woman passenger required extrication following the crash.
Firefighters from Hopland and Ukiah Valley Fire mentioned it took extensive effort and several tools to clear the victims, especially the female passenger trapped by the crumpled truck.
The 73-year-old man was transported to Ukiah Valley Med Center while his passenger who remains unidentified was flown to Ukiah Valley Med as well.

No immediate details were disclosed on the condition of the rig operator after the incident.
Authorities said the pickup crashed into the side of the rig on the southbound lanes of Highway 101 near Center Street in Hopland.
It is still under investigation how and why the collision took place.
