At Least 1 Hurt in Traffic Collision on State Route 38 Saturday
Mentone, CA (July 4, 2021) – The California Highway Patrol group reported a suspected hit-and-run crash that occurred on State Route 38 on July 3, Saturday.
According to the CHP dispatch, a man riding a motorcycle was traveling west on the highway. Preliminary investigation revealed the motorcyclist attempted to pass a sedan while driving along the double yellow line of SR-38. In the process, the rider approached a vehicle traveling in the opposite lane.
The motorcyclist swerved back into the westbound side to avoid head-on collision. As a result, the rider struck the back of the westbound sedan.
Emergency teams arrived at the site shortly after 3:33 p.m. Per CHP log, the motorcyclist sustained injuries as a result of the wreck.

Officials confirmed the other two drivers involved in the accident fled the scene before police arrived.
Investigators continue to work to determine several factors surrounding the hit-and-run crash in Mentone.
