Bicyclist, 53, Injured in Merced Hit-and-Run Crash on Martin Luther King Jr. Way
MERCED, CA (August 31, 2021) – A bicyclist was injured after a hit-and-run crash on Martin Luther King Jr. Way in Merced.
According to an article published by The Merced Sun Star, the accident took place late Monday night. Officers reported the collision on August 30 at about 11:22 p.m.
The incident began when a vehicle was turning southbound onto Martin Luther King Jr. Way from West 15th Street in Merced. At the same time, a 53-year-old man was riding a bicycle in the area.
Police said in the process, the driver struck the cyclist. Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived at the scene and found the rider lying in the 1400 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Way.
Bicycle Rider Hit by Car
Medical personnel provided treatment to the victim for the unspecified injuries they sustained as a result of the collision. Officials did not disclose the name of the patient and his condition at this time.
Meanwhile, police affirmed that the motorist did not stop to help the bicyclist and fled toward Highway 99. They described the car as a white colored sedan.
Officers forced a stretch of Martin Luther King Jr. Way to close following the collision. The Merced hit-and-run crash is still under investigation.
