Caltrans Worker Seriously Injured in Merced Hit-and-Run on Martin Luther King Jr. Way
MERCED, CA (June 9, 2021) – A hit-and-run crash seriously injured a Caltrans worker on Martin Luther King Jr. Way in Merced.
According to an article published by The Merced Sun Star, the accident took place early Wednesday. Officers reported the collision at about 2:49 a.m.
The incident happened when a Caltrans worker was placing a cone pattern in the northbound lanes of Martin Luther King Jr. Way. At the same time, a vehicle was traveling north.
Merced police said the car struck the 29-year-old man for an unknown reason. The driver hit him in the 1300 block of Martin Luther King.

Firefighters along with the paramedics responded to the scene and soon found the victim left suffering from major injuries as a result of the collision.
An air ambulance took the wounded patient to a Modesto area hospital for treatment of a broken leg. His name and condition at this time were not disclosed.
Meanwhile, CHP affirmed that the motorist did not stop to render aid to the man and fled the area. They described the car as a silver 4-door Volkswagen sedan, possibly a 2006 to 2010 model.
The vehicle sustained damage to the driver’s side due to the impact of the collision. The Merced hit-and-run crash that left the Caltrans worker is still under investigation.
