Boy, 12, Injured in Merced Hit-and-Run Near R and 19th Streets
MERCED, CA (January 15, 2022) – A child was hospitalized after a hit-and-run crash near R and 19th streets in Merced.
According to the ABC 30 News and FOX 26 News, the accident took place on Saturday evening. Officers reported the collision shortly before 6 p.m.
The incident happened when a 12-year-old boy was crossing near the intersection of R and 19th Streets with a group of children in Merced.
Police said for an unknown reason, a vehicle then struck him. Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived at the scene and found the pedestrian hurt.
Child Hit by Car
He ended up suffering from an injury to his ankle as a result of the collision. Medical personnel soon took the child to a hospital for treatment.
The reports did not disclose the condition of the wounded victim at this time. Meanwhile, police affirmed that the driver did not stop to help the child and fled the area.
They described the car as a white Honda Accord or a Toyota. Officers forced the corner of R and 19th Streets to shut down following the collision.
The cause of the Merced hit-and-run crash is still under investigation. Anyone with information can call the police at 209-385-6912.
